Jaco for the day

We decided to go to the beach for the day. The closest one that people recommended was Jaco, an hour away from San Jose. The first beach you find driving into town is Playa Herradura. It was very crowded with locals having picnic everywhere under the trees, and quite frankly a little dirty.

Next you will find Jaco Beach. The water is slightly warm and there are little waves and a bit of a current. It is a long grey sand beach with lots of space for the kids to play. More pebbles than shells but I am sure the little ones don't mind. Make sure to take some umbrellas as there aren't too many trees or shady spots on the main beach. The town is small but you can find a few nice spots for lunch. We went to Poseidon Restaurant, right by the entrance to the beach and I had shrimp ceviche and lovely fish and chips!!

Later we took a drive southward and went for a walk at Playa Hermosa. It is much prettier than Jaco Beach but not safe enough for children to swim. It is more popular with surfers and you will find lots of people walking their dogs.
